Cleaning a polyester filter cartridge

Tools and equipment needed:

Garden Hose

Spray nozzle

Optional equipment:

Filter Wand

Safety First: It is always a good practice to make sure the circuit breaker to the spa has been disengaged or turned off until all of your maintenance is completed.

In order to clean a polyester filter cartridge it must first be removed from the filter housing in the spa. This should be apparent in the spa’s instruction manual or at the location of the filter itself. If not please contact the manufacture.

Do not use soap, detergent or any other chemical that is not specifically intended for the use in cleaning a spa filter.

Never allow your filter to dry out, this will damage the cells and weaken its effectiveness.

After removal, place the cartridge on a clean surface (such as a deck, concrete surface, lawn etc.) and prepare to use a garden hose with a high pressure nozzle.

1. Start by spraying the fabric with the nozzle adjusted for optimum pressure and coverage. A thin stream will yield a very strong cleaning pressure and a fan or spray will cover more area. Using a combination of the settings will work well
1. in removing accumulated dirt and debris.

A handy device for cleaning your filters is called the filter wand. This device allows for even pressure coverage with a comb specially designed for distribution between the pleats.

2.) Once the filter has been thoroughly cleaned, reinstall it in its original location. By filling the filter with water before installation on the suction line you can prevent air from becoming trapped and potentially causing your pumps to lose suction.

For deeper cleansing it is advisable to use one of our filter cleaning products. This may become necessary when the bather load has saturated the filter and pressure washing does not keep the filter clean for more than a few days.

Filter cleaner is specifically made for this purpose. Clean one area at a time until the cartridge looks whiter. This is fairly easy to do and should be done every two weeks.

Use of water clarifier “Bright and Clear” enhances the filtering process by clumping small particles together (flocculent) for capture by the system. In turn this also makes cleaning the filter easier. It is recommended to use this chemical a day or two prior to cleaning the filter.

When the structure of the filter breaks down and it becomes stained it is time to replace the cartridge. This will occur depending on usage and spa cleaning intervals. Spa should be drained, cleaned and refilled at least every three months.
